Beach Bridal Photography - Amanda’s Bridal Portraits - 6-10-2008
Posted on June 11, 2008
What a great night last night for some beach bridal photography! I needed to get Amanda’s portraits done quickly because her wedding is THIS SUNDAY. (they booked me quite late in the game) So, it’s been a pretty crazy week. The good news is that I have their engagement portrait framed in a signature matte ready to go, and Amanda’s bridal portrait will be in tomorrow. I have her frame all done so everything is all set for a VERY busy weekend.
The weather couldn’t have been any better on the beach last night. Amanda’s Maid of Honor was helping out and we did this session in a little under one hour.
I was able to get over 100 keepers from this session, but here are some of my favorites from Amanda’s Bridal Photography session.

I used two different cameras for this session. One with a 50mm 1.4 lens and the other with an 18-200mm zoom. I’m VERY pleased with the results.

Beach Engagement Photography - Amanda & Brian - 6-5-2008
Posted on June 10, 2008
The night before the heat wave hit I had the pleasure of a shooting beach engagement photography session with Amanda and Brian. This was a fairly late booking, and they were worried about getting their images done and online, along with getting their signature matte and framed bridal portrait in time for their wedding. (which is THIS coming Sunday the 15th). This isn’t a problem (for me). So, they showed up on time, and all of a sudden….
The weather turned to CRAPOLA! This mist and FOG rolled in off the ocean and the temperature dropped clearly 20 degrees in a matter of minutes. It was really freaky! (well, not so freaky for this area where the weather changes so fast). I popped a few filters on my lens and adjusted my flashes to help with the flog and away we went.
Here are a few shots from this session!
Now, the last 4 photographs above were near the water that evening which was cold gray misty and just dank. The water wasn’t all as pretty as it usually is so I took some liberties with the water and sky while working on the images in photoshop. The pictures below are the same shots as above, but they’re not “finished”. I’ve done nothing to the water and I haven’t put a vignette on the photos to draw the eyes into the center of the image.
So, you can see there’s quite a difference. Some people prefer the original (I usually do) and some people prefer the altered version. I think the reason that people might prefer the original version is that in my experience an altered version has no emotional attachment to the original memory. If the original memory of the day was cold and gray, then having an image where it looks like the water color of jamaica or another southern island destination disconnects the memory.
It’s just fun to play with images and take some artistic liberties at times!
I’m shooting Amanda’s bridal portraits tonight! Let’s hope she doesn’t melt! It’s going to be pretty hot!

Norfolk Botanical Gardens Bridal Portraits - Brandy - 6-4-2008
Posted on June 7, 2008
Brandy is getting married at the end of this month. Her wedding will be at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in the Butterfly Garden with the reception to follow being held in Baker Hall. Of course, she chose the Botanical Gardens as the location to for her bridal portraits.
MAN was it hot though! Generally, I use my big reflector for what it was intended (which is to bounce light around where I want it), but during this session it was used mostly to keep Brandy well below the melting point of a young lady wearing a wedding dress. (thank God it worked great!)
Here of some of Brandy’s bridal portraits.
