Sunrise Wedding Photography - Glen and Victoria - June 21st 2008
Posted on June 30, 2008
Sunrise wedding photography presents some unique challenges, especially if it’s extremely important to the bride (Victoria in this case) for that sunrise to be included in as many of the ceremony and formal shots as possible. Fortunately, I’ve lived near the ocean most of my life, and have shot more sunrise pictures than I can count. But, photography of a sunrise is pretty easy. Putting people in front of the sunrise and exposing the people properly without blowing out the sunrise is another issue. So, armed with a bunch of remote controlled flash units on stands, I hit the beach at 4:45 am that morning.
Glen and Victoria got married at the Sheraton Oceanfront Resort Hotel. (Deja Vu! I just did a wedding there 6 days prior!) The ceremony was slated for 6 am. That presented a problem right there. Sunrise would be over by the time the ceremony was over, so the formals of the Glen and Victoria would have to be shot before the ceremony if she was to get the sunrise in the background of those images. So, that’s what I did.
The morning couldn’t have been better, just enough clouds on the horizon to really color up the sky. It was truly an amazing sunrise. All of Glen and Victoria’s family and friends got up, got all dressed up, and showed up at the crack of dawn to witness the ceremony and dance like crazy before most people are thinking about getting up on a Saturday morning.
Victoria found me via the web, viewing some of the other sunrise sessions I’ve photographed. So, the pressure was REALLY on to nail it. So, here’s a few photographs from Glen and Victoria’s sunrise wedding. There’ll be a link below the pictures in this article which will take you to a slide show of 128 more pictures from their wedding.
It was very early, and you just never know what a sunrise is going to look like until it begins. (that’s what keeps getting me up early to see the differences!)
I did the shot above without flash to expose the whole scene the same, naturally they’d be dark against the rising sun

That beach ball exit was great! The last one of those I photographed was Tony and Monica, June 17th, 2006 (and that was a cool one too!).
Glen and Victoria are on their honeymoon down in Puerto Vallarta, but Victoria was able to see her pictures the night before they flew out. (she was VERY excited about her photographs).
Here is a slide show with 128 more photos from Glen and Victoria’s Sunrise Wedding. Click here to see it.
Did a great wedding Saturday the 28th at the Botanical Gardens, a bridal session with Katelyn on the beach last night, and I have a wedding in Sandbridge / Lesner Inn today! I’ll post those shoots as soon as I can.

Sheraton Wedding Photography - Amanda & Brian - June 15th, 2008
Posted on June 28, 2008
Doing wedding photography at the Sheraton Virginia Beach (on 35th-36th Street) for Amanda and Brian presented some unique challenges. The first challenge was that Amanda and her attendants were getting ready at Amanda’s mom’s house in Chesapeake (a good 35 minute drive or so) and the guys were getting ready at the Sheraton.
THANK GOD for BLATENT disregard for all traffic laws!
It worked out fine, Georgeanna met me at Amanda’s getting ready location to pick up the camera gear she was using and went ahead of me to the Sheraton. I stayed with the girls and sent Georgeanna to handle the boys. (that didn’t sound good did it?)
The second challenge was that the ceremony was in the elevated area outside the Cape Henry ballroom facing the ocean. RIGHT on the windows on an elevated platform. COMPLETELY back lit against blue tinted windows with sunshine beaming in.
No room behind the wedding party to speak of to shoot from the back either. But, it all worked out with some off camera flash and some bracketing. *whew*
Great wedding! That’s why this passion of mine never gets boring. There are always new challenges, new people, and interesting situations to spin via a slew of cameras I carry. (usually 3, sometimes 4). This was a party crowd, and it was “on” from the start of the vows till the last dance of the reception. Amanda and Brian, with all their friends and families, started their lives together with a wonderful celebration.
Here are a few shots from this wedding below. After the photographs posted here, there is a link to a slide show with 130 more images from their wedding.

Bayville Golf Club Wedding - Alfredo & Cameron - June 14th, 2008
Posted on June 27, 2008
Alfredo and Cameron’s wedding was at Bayville Golf Club back in the private area of the course where the owners of the land live. They were given the keys to the guest house which the girls used to get ready. There was a great big tent for the reception with lots of fans (thank God, because it was REALLY hot), and the ceremony setup was facing to the East looking out over Lynnhaven Bay. (WONDERFUL view! Even after the smoke from the wildfires wafted in when the wind changed direction later in the day).
This was a fun one! A great cultural mix with lots of great people plus good music and a seemingly endless flow of tequila really made this wedding a memorable one! Here’s a few images from the wedding. Following these wedding pictures, there’s a link to a slide show with 123 of Alfredo and Cameron’s wedding pictures.

I had two assistant shooters with me at this wedding. Sharon was there, who’s been helping me for about a year now, and Georgeanna was doing her first wedding EVER with me. I shot her wedding last October up in Williamsburg and now she’s working for me. Go figure! She’s got a great eye!
Alfredo and Cameron had over 1000 images in their coverage. Staggering! Here’s a small sample of their full coverage in the form of a slide show. Click Here To See 123 More Wedding Pictures from Alfredo and Cameron’s wedding.
I am SOOOOOO behind in getting wedding posts up here, so please check back soon. I should have my June 15th wedding posted here tomorrow. I have a Botanical Gardens wedding tomorrow night, a Bridal shoot on Sunday, and another Wedding in Sandbridge / Reception at Lesner Inn on MONDAY. Busy weekend!
