Portsmouth Renaissance Wedding Photography - Derek and Shaneka - 5-24-2008

Derek and Shaneka’s wedding was held at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel in the afternoon this past Saturday. They couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to have an outdoor ceremony. The reception was held in the Portsmouth Ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel.

I’ve had the pleasure to really get to know this couple through shooting their engagement session, Shaneka’s bridal session, and then their wedding. It was an awesome experience from start to finish as family and friends came from far and wide to celebrate the wedding of this great couple.

Too many pictures to choose from! It’s very difficult to pick the images to put here on the blog, so it’s become a random sampling of the coverage. Derek and Shaneka are going to have 730 images to look through from their wedding day. I don’t do wedding photography to impress other photographers. I adjust the style I shoot to give my clients what they want. How do I know what they want? I simply ask them.

I still haven’t posted all the sessions from the past week, but I will get to it as time permits! I have another wedding from last Saturday to edit too!

Trash The Dress Wedding Photography - Jennifer’s Session

When I first spoke with Jennifer about her wedding she was ALL OVER doing a Trash The Dress session. The dress she’s wearing in this article is not her “real” wedding dress. I shared with her the method to inexpensively obtain a dress to use for this type of photography and she was able to get the one she wore for this session for $19. (then $15 for some quick alterations to take it in). So, only $34! That’s cheap!

I was a bit concerned about the weather last night, because it didn’t look too promising, but I got up at 4:15 and I was on the beach setup by 5:00 (that’s in the MORNING) to catch the pre sunrise light. It was only 55 degrees and the wind was whipping across the sand making it pretty uncomfortable to be there, but at least we all got a free exfoliation.

The water was WAY TOO ROUGH to do a complete dunk sequence during the session (not to mention the fact that the water was 57 degrees), but I am REALLY PLEASED with the results from this session.

I am also doing Jennifer’s wedding photography in October of this year. Here are a few shots from the session.

Now you can see that there is a BIG wave coming behind Jennifer, and right about at the point I took this shot I was also saying “LOOK OUT!” at the same time.

Well! I warned her!

Trash The Dress bridal sessions are GREAT fun! (for me too!)

I’m booked solid this weekend, the rest of today and tomorrow, so I’ll post more from those sessions this week as I get them done.

Kiln Creek Wedding Photography - Tim and Tiffany - 5-10-2008

I had the pleasure of performing the wedding photography for Tim and Tiffany up at Kiln Creek Golf Club and Resort in Newport News this past Saturday. I had done their engagement session in mid march, and they came up from Charlotte for their wedding. (their families live locally).

The ceremony was slated to be held outside next to the Pavilion at Kiln Creek and the weather was not looking promising for that. There was light drizzle and wind and all that other nastiness that we’ve been having lately. (mostly on the weekends!) Tiffany held her ground on the outside ceremony, and after a bit of a wait, magically, the skies cleared a bit, the wind died down, and the sun even dared to come out from time to time.
