Formal Flush Mount Wedding Albums

Posted on February 1, 2008

I get asked quite often in consultations about my album designs. I offer several different types of albums, both flush mounted and traditional matted. In this article, I’m going to focus on a flush mounted design.

What is a flush mount wedding album? It’s an album without boundaries. There are no slots or holes or imaginary boundaries or image size limitations. The only limit is my imagination and the physical size of the page. The pages are 12x12 inches. I design my flush mount albums in two page spreads or panoramas. For a 30 page album, there will be two 12x12 page designs. Page 1 and page 30. Page 2 through page 29 will be two page spreads.

90+ % of the couples I photograph choose a flush mount album. The reasons are many. The two that I hear most often are: 1. They look cool! 2. You can get more images in them!

Both statements are true! They DO look cool, and you CAN put more images in them. For instance, the 30 page album I completed the design of today has 118 images in it. That’s almost a 4 image per page average which in my opinion is a bit tight. But, I was able to put 32 images on TWO pages. Those were reception dance and candid shots. You CANNOT do that with a traditional matted album. It’s just not possible with any manufacturer.

This is Thomas and Elysia’s wedding album. It’s a 30 page flush mount design. Many photographers use templates to do their designs. I admit that I used to years ago. I don’t use any templates now. I do all the designs freehand in Adobe Photoshop.

Here’s the slide show of their album design. Click Here For The Album. When the show is done, you can click on the individual spreads to take a better look at them.
